Research abstract

The overall goal of Phase I is to ascertain the extent to which the Avionics Operating System (AOS) for the F-22 Common Integrated Processor (CIP) can offer a POSIX conforming Application Program Interface (API) for its services. The analysis will determine: (a) areas of overlap and (b) areas that are disjoint. The latter set will be divided into (b1) those POSIX interfaces which are not supported by any underlying AOS functionality and (b2) those AOS functions which are not accessible any conforming POSIX interface. If successful, Phase II work would develop a thin layer of software utilizing existing AOS APIs to provide a POSIX conforming API environment. We will build on our previous results obtained under NGCR contract studies by WW Technology Group that looked at the use of standards, including POSIX, for mission critical computing. One application studied under this contract was the F-22 Common Integrated Processor.
