Research abstract

This research will develop an improved maxillofacial prosthetic material based on a neworganosilicon polymer and monomer. The siloxane polymer possesses reactive end groups and willundergo thermal-crosslinking with a siloxane monomer which possesses similar end groups. Theindentation hardness, tensile strength, percent elongation, the elongation at break, and tear strength ofthe material will be determined and compared with those of commercial silicone maxillofacial prostheticmaterial. The new materials are expected to have strong tear strength, good bonding to the adhesive, good miscibility with the pigments and colorants, and require processing temperature below 100C.
