Research abstract

ITHACO PROPOSES DEVELOPING A LOW-COST, LOW-POWER, EARTH SENSOR AS A COMPONENT IN A COMPLETE LOW-COST ATTITUDE CONTROL SYSTEM. THE EFFORT ENTAILS COST REDUCTION OF MATERIALS AND MANUFACTURING PROCESSES USED ON THE SCANNER ASSEMBLY PRESENTLY IN PRODUCTION. THE EFFORT ALSO INCLUDES THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SMALL, LOW-POWER, LOW-COST MICROCOMPUTER BASED CONTROLLER. THE PROPOSED EFFORT IS AN EXTENSION OF THE FEASIBILITY STUDYCOMPLETED IN PHASE I. THAT STUDY CONCLUDED THAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO BUILD AND MARKET A COMPLETE ATTITUDE CONTROL SYSTEM FOR LESS THAN $200K. PHASE II TASKS: * - DEFINE SYSTEM DESCRIPTION * - COST REDUCE SCANNER * - DESIGN CONTROLLER * - DESIGN REVIEW * - WRITE FINAL REPORT
