Research abstract

In this Phase II program Foster-Miller will continue working on the development of cutting edge molecular modeling techniques to design and select candidate jet fuel additives to prevent aircraft fuel filter plugging by paraffin waxes at low temperature. This additive can be used in JP-8 to improve its low temperature properties to match the performance of JPTS fuel. This would allow the USAF to eliminate the use of JPTS specialty fuel, greatly reducing the operating costs and logistical burden associatedwith JPTS. Candidate additives identified by molecular modeling will be laboratory tested using screening methods developed by Foster-Miller during the Phase II program, as well as USAF filter plugging tests. Foster-Miller will synthesize novelcandidates for evaluation. (P-01294)
