Research abstract

The performance of modern missile seekers is beginning to surpass that of available infrared measurement instrumentation. Current generation measurement instrumentation was developed to calibrate single pixel or Sprite scanning imagers. With the advent of affordable and reliable two-dimensional focal plane arrays, available for both the MiddleWave InFraRed (MWIR) and LongWave InFraRed (LWIR) regions, modern weapon systems have demonstrated improved performance and demand measurement instrumentation with sufficient fidelity and resolution to accurately characterize their performance. A calibratable IR sensor developed around the high photon-collecting efficiency of staring FPAs is the solution to this problem. An innovative solution to this problem is presented in this proposal which provides dual-band coverage in a compact single sensor. An all-reflective telescope is incorporated to provide excellent stray light reduction and eliminate concerns with optics self-emissions.
