Research abstract

Infrared image generation for IR sensor development and testing are currently large workstations costing several hundreds of thousands of dollars. Performance and image resolution is the key limiting factors of using PC hardware for this task. Usingdistributed processing, and intelligent algorithms, along with the forthcoming advances in PC graphics hardware; the next generation of real-time image generators for HWIL (hardware-in-the-loop) application is likely candidates to be hosted on PC basedplatforms.During this Phase I effort, CG2 will research the use of existing and future hardware, software, and interface techniques to provide an unprecedented SG capability on a PC. CG2 will work to insure that the Scene generation for dynamic HWIL scenes willoperate from a core structure. The overall design and/or architecture will accommodate various types of plug-ins. This will insure that models, counter-measures (clutter, chaff, etc.), weather (rain, fog, etc.) and other types of special codes can bedeveloped and integrated. The PC scene generator will have many places of use in today's booming high-speed graphics oriented industry. One of the main impacts on the commercial industry will be the testing of single and multi-mode sensors. This technology can also be used formedical imaging, police surveillance, fir prevention/detection, auto collision avoidance systems as well as intrusion detection systems.
