Integrating the meaning (or semantics) of databases and programs is crucial forcreating software that is reliable and scalable. The use of ontologies to specifysemantics is emerging as a promising technique for software integration. Thistechnique is hampered by the lack of a common public ontology. We will deliver apublic common ontology under this contract. That ontology will be comprised of anupper ontology that makes fundamental distinctions about our world that arenecessary for all systems to interoperate, and also a middle-level common Armyontology.
