Research abstract

This study program will use wavelet theory to show how particular classes of wide band signals may be used as the foundation for the synthesis, analysis, and identification of large classes of low-probability-of-intercept (LPI) signals. In particular, it will be shown how linear pseudo noise sequences may themselves be considered as wavelets in the space of more complex sequences and how the resulting theory may be used to analyze, identify, and exploit LPI signals which use these more complex sequences as their underlying spectrum spreading mechanism. This new signal analysis formulation will result in powerful algorithms for the detection, identification, and characterization of hostile LPI signals. The implementation and application of these algorithms will provide command-and-control and fighter platforms with a greatly enhanced non-cooperative target identification (NCTI) capability.
