Research abstract

DESCRIPTION (provided by applicant): Our program will create a novel high throughput (HT) screening tool to address unmet needs in the research of valuable drug targets that are located within cell membranes. We intend to create novel surface chemistries, sample preparation protocols, system software, and robotics that will be combined with our proprietary molecular interaction detection technology known as Back-scattering Interferometry. We will demonstrate the value of this platform by analyzing a commercially available cell membrane protein system and its natural interacting molecule. Once completed, our new HT screening platform is envisioned to contribute to the development of valuable therapeutics and diagnostics, making a significantly positive impact upon healthcare. PUBLIC HEALTH RELEVANCE: Drugs directed against cell membrane targets comprise one of the most important classes of therapeutics and focused pharmaceutical research. Tools available to support this research lack enabling capabilities, and are a barrier to progress. Our program will result in the creation of a novel research platform that will exert a substantial and powerful impact to advance progress in membrane target drug research, yielding new and improved therapeutics that will positively impact the treatment of disease, improving healthcare while reducing its cost.
