Research abstract

The long-term performance of an aircraft coating can be evaluated by characterization of weathered coating during the initial stages. Prediction of the useful lifetime of an aircraft coating should be useful in new coating development and scheduling repainting. In this proposal, we describe chemical, mechanical, and other analytical techniques for characterization of new emerging aircraft coating as they age. After we complete this and the next phase, we shall be able to predict durability of the coatings during their initial lifetime.
