Research abstract

Overland AI proposes advancing its OverDrive autonomy stack to enable self-driving convoy operations without reliance on GPS or active sensors like LIDAR. The system will use sensor fusion to estimate vehicle position and maintain precise autonomous following in rugged terrain. Phase I demonstrated OverDrive’s ability to track a lead vehicle with minimal deviation. Phase II will enhance this capability by developing a GPS-free leader-follower localization system and introducing a configurable autonomy authority, allowing operators to adjust how closely autonomous vehicles follow. An option period will focus on achieving convoy autonomy using only passive sensors, reducing vehicle detectability in contested environments.
