Research abstract

THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PROPOSED RESEARCH IS TO DEVELOP A PROCESS ALTERNATIVE TO CURRENT STATE-OF-THE-ART SOLUTION TECHNOLOGY FOR MULTI-STEP SYNTHESES OF HIGH-VALUE CHEMICALS. BY ELIMINATING THE NEED FOR ISOLATION AND PURIFICATION OF ALL REACTION INTERMEDIATES, SUBSTANTIAL SAVINGS (50% OR BETTER) IN PRODUCTION COSTS CAN BE REALIZED. SPECIFICALLY, WE INTEND TO SYNTHESIZE 3'-AZIDO-2',3'-DIDEOXYURIDINE (AZDU) BY A SOLID PHASE METHODON SELECTED POLYMERS. THIS COMPOUND IS AN ANALOGUE OF AZT AND IS SLATED FOR CLINICAL TRIALS AS A THERAPEUTIC AGENT FORTHE TREATMENT OF AIDS.
