Research abstract

Linoleic acid, the predominant polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) in the human diet, is a substratecyclooxygenase, lipoxygenase and cytochrome P450 enzymes. The majore metabolitcs of these pathways,13(S)-HODE, 9, 10-epoxyoctadecenoate, and 12, 13-epoxyoctadecenoate are known to exhibit interestingsuch as pulmonary vasodilation, alterations in platelet function, maintenance of vascular thromboresinteractions and transduction of cellular responses to certain growth factors. Secondary metaboliteshas also been shown to influence cellular activites, including partitioning between cell proliferatiaddition, oxidized linoleic acid in low density lipoproteins has been reported to play a role in theatherosclerosis. Thus, the study of linoleic acid oxidation is important for several significant clisimple, rapid and convenient assays to analyze these bioactive lipids has hindered efforts to clearland pathophysiologic roles of thes compunds. Therefore, we will continue the development of form spereagents for the major oxidized linoleate metabolites.
