Research abstract

Princeton Electronic systems (PES) proposes to develop a high performance telemaintenance system for DoD logistics needs. The proposed system can be used for collaborative troubleshooting and maintenance of the fielded equipment by using internet as the primary communication medium. It will enable instant access of experts anywhere in the world for solving difficult field maintenance problems. Using the system and the internet, it will be possible to have internet based centralized maintenance for the tri-services, if such a maintenance organization will be desired. In phase I, PES will develop a telemaintenance system which can be used with internet or any other communications media like wireless cellular network or satellite channels to videoconference with the ability to file share and emulation and remote control of test equipment in the field. The system will also use PCMCIA card based test equipment in the field shared with remotely located experts. We will ad a number of sophisticated equipment to the version of remote usage of test equipment that we have developed. The system will have the ability to collaboratively solve a problem with multi site, multi user participation. In phase I, we will also investigate the issues of security and encryption and forward error correction and preliminary version of these will be in place. The system will be based on Windows 95 and Windows 98 operating systems. In phase II, PES will develop a fully functional, secure multi user system which can be deployed on a worldwide basis. The system can be used over low communication bandwidth media as well. The system will be improved for operation on any platform with any operating systems. The system will be ideal for deployment with centralized maintenance centers for tri-services. The system will be commercialized in phase III.
