Research abstract

The proposed research will study the effectiveness of biofiltration for the purfication of air streams from industrial waste treatment plants for Air Force paint-stripping operations. The investigation will entail: removal efficiencies for the target contaminants, methylene chloride and phenol, the choice of the packing media in terms of energy consumption, its ability to support microorganisms and to operate efficiently under fluctuating pollutant concentrations. The final report will include a preliminary assessment of the economic feasibility and effectiveness of biofiltration for the removal of methylene chloride and phenol.
