Research abstract

UTS will investigate technologies that can be applied to an 'after-action-review' capability in support of weapon system development and testing. The capability can be used to provide standard "Debrief Module" products during and after a DIS experiment. The Debrief Module will support "what if" analysis during and within hours after a DIS experiment, including an assessment of the impact of alternative weapon system design parameters, tactics, changing environment, and threats. More in-depth analysis will be possible within a few days after the completion of the experiment. Several existing systems have been developed to display planned exercise results and real-world events. This project will investigate the applicability of these systems and their visualization methods to the Debrief Module. UIS will also investigate a number of new technologies and issues, including software development tools and techniques, networked simulation data access and processing methods, and commercial data visualization software products. Prototypes will be developed and tested as required to assess new technology or answer difficult technical questions. A list of features for the Debrief Module will be developed, and a preliminary design will be documented. UIS's research will provide a Debrief Module and Data visualization products that can be used in Government and commercial applications. The Debrief Module can be linked to large simulation processes such as air traffic control. It will have applicability in a number of industries, including law enforcement and healthcare.
