Research abstract

BRC and its Consulting Partner Murray State University (MSU) are proposing an innovative approach to the near real-time generation of environmental effects such as dust, smoke, fog, rain and haze based upon an Auto-Regressive Moving Average (ARMA) technique that has been proven to provide realistic renderings in its simplest form. This technique creates 'Fractal-Like' complexity through the use of a mathematical equation that relies on a collection of fixed and random coefficients to the scene. Because the survivability of any TMD asset is greatly affected by the nature of its environment, there is a critical need for a way to simulate these effects in real time. Using the proposed technique, the Government will be able, for the first time, to render fully photo-realistic, real-time environments in its TMD simulations. The Result will be the generation of better simulations that allow valid survivability studies to be performed. This Phase I outlines a 6 month program to prove the viability of the ARMA technique for enhancing TMD simulations. This technique will revolutionize the way that DIS simulations are rendered and improve the validity of survivability studies using the DIS environment. The private sector will have many uses for this technology in the entertainment and video industry.
