Research abstract
The leading staff of our company has gained experience, over decades in producing and processing extremely fine metal fibers of high tensile strength and considerable L/D. One of these processes is the fabrication of sturdy networks, containing interconnected high strength metalfibers. According to a patented technique; we infiltrate into the metallic network plastic material, gaining homogenous distribution of the fibers at all concentrations between 1% and 50%, without damaging the high L/D ratio. This is contrary to the old method of stirring whiskers into a liquid matrix. Our method is also crucial for our proposal: To create highly conductive, convenient plastic materials by infiltrating thermosetting or dissolved plastic material into the pores of our sturdy plugs, our felts, of fiber networks. The fibers are polycrystalline iron whiskers in the range of 0.1 - 0.5 - 1 micron, while the type of plastic can be selected. Examples are epoxy or polycarbonate. Since an already conductive network of 99 - 80% porosity only accepts the plastic material by infiltration, the high conductivity of the plastic body is automatically secured.
