Research abstract
KLSS will thoroughly investigate the concept of using simulations to enhance the ability of Logistics Managers to identify problems and determine solutions. Other decision support alternatives to be research include the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Neural Networks (NN) and diagnostics based tools. KLSS will focus the majority of this Phase I effort investigating simulation based decision support aids. KLSS proposes to develop a relatively simple simulation of the logistics support operations and the generation of mission sorties. The simulation will be able to maintain status and accumulate statistics on the utilizatin of crew chiefs, aircrew, maintenance technicians, load crews, support equipment and critical parts. For Phase I, this simulation will only be able to run against specific scenarios. The simulation may be run against potential "what-if" scenarios and the resultant effects on operational capability noted. From this demonstration and the investigation of other potential decision support tools, the requirements for a Phase II effort will be defined and a recommendation made on its need and potential application.
