Research abstract

Applied Physical Electronics (APELC) in uniquely positioned to propose on the topic of a portable Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) and High Power Microwave (HPM) antenna array for aircraft testing due to historical and current EMP products as well as current developmental work in the area of fast risetime and low jitter Marx generators.  APELC has proven history with fielding multiple wire based Transverse Electromagnetic Mode (TEM) parallel-plate EMP simulators and has in-house modeling and simulation (M&S) resources and expertise applicable to this unique, wide-band time domain problem.  The challenge not being addressed by the community is the need for a robust, scalable structure that can serve multi-axis testing needs, including vertical, horizontal and overhead orientations.  Known array efforts are simply addressing the multi-source electrical specifications, such as wave coherency and and amplitude. APELC is proposing the development of a modular structure to meet the need of any size or  shaped asset, while enabling system portability and rapid reconfiguration.
