Research abstract
Optimal deployment of remote sensor systems depends heavily on their ability to operate autonomously for extended periods of time, as well as their ability to adapt to changing operational requirements, new technologies, and products. The solution to theseproblems is a system-wide design approach that considers all system blocks and components and utilizes intelligence to adapt, adjust and optimize system performance to fit changing requirements. Long operating time and low power consumption are two of themost important parameters of a remote sensor system. The purpose of this Phase I proposal is to consider and suggest a system design for an intelligent Power Module applicable to Navy operations. Should this effort prove successful, InHand will havedeveloped a suite of tools and modules that will improve power efficiency at several focal points in the power distribution chain. These tools will be most effective when applied system-wide, but may also be applied to select areas for spot gains andefficiency improvement. Though targeted for Navy sensor systems, these same enhancements will find benefit in numerous areas in the pure commercial and industrial sectors.
