Research abstract
The next generation of tactical missiles will use several types of non-traditional propulsion systems, each of which requires a control system. A method is required to economically and thoroughly evaluate and analyze the propulsion control system without risking expernsive, one-of-a-kind, prototype propulsion systems. Electronic Concepts and Engineering Inc. proposes to develop a real-time simulator to emulate tactical propulsion systems. This goal will be accomplished by developing a Personal Computer (PC) based, Microsoft Windows Graphical User Interface driven, real-time software simulation of the propulsion system. The simulation software will interface through PC I/O cards to an external electrical signal conditioning module which interfaces with the control system being analyzed. The expected result of this Phase I program is a functional, real-time, propulsion system simulator which models the dynamics of a single shaft turbojet engine and performs a post-simulation analysis of the system's response. In addition to the development of real-time, computer based, tactical missile turbojet engine simulators, the personnel assigned to this program have several years experience developing real-time propulsion system controls for ARPA, the U.S. Army, and commercial concerns. ANTICIPATED BENEFITS: Anticipated Commercial Benefits: A user configurable Universal Tactical Missile Propulsion System Simulator has commercial applications in automotive engine control development, aircraft maintenance depots, and commercial test facilities.
