Research abstract
The application of modern Computer Aided System Engineering (CASE) tools, coupled with object oriented programming and the full exploitation of modern AI techniques and graphics technology is proposed to develop a simulation architecture that will address the Army's logistics and sustainment systems from the industrial base to the individual weapon system user. The APJ technique can address logistics support at almost any desired level of resolution ranging from quick response overall planning and evaluation down to the details required for a specific contingency Time Phased Force Development List (TPFDL). The concept of an Architecture permits a consistent development from Phase I thorugh Phase II and into Application. Technology, doctrine, and organization alternatives may be "played" from a readiness posture through to combat. Our approach permits the evaluation of potential systems, assessments of those in being, and provides a basis for decision support. An important feature of our simulation technique is that as a by-product, it provides both insights and the "Why" of the decision process. User interaction, and the capability to accept input from a wide diversity of sources assists in addressing situational dynamics.
