Research abstract

AN ARCHIVE OF DATA FROM 20 TO 40 OF THE BEST U.S. STUDIES DEALING WITH THE DEMOGRAPHY OF FAMILY AND HOUSEHOLD STRUCTURE AND ITS EFFECTS ON CONSTITUENT INDIVIDUALS WILL BE ESTABLISHED. EACH DATA SET IN A PRIMARY ARCHIVE WILL BE MADE PUBLICLY AVAILABLE IN THE STANDARD FORMAT DEVELOPED BY THE DATA ARCHIVE ON ADOLESCENT PREGNANCY AND PREGNANCY PREVENTION (DAAPPP). THREE FILES IN A VARIETY OF MACHINE-READABLE FORMATS WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE: THE RAW DATA, SPSS PROGRAM STATEMENTS TO TRANSFORM THE RAW DATA TO AN SPSS SYSTEM FIELD, AND SAS PROGRAM STATEMENTS TO TRANSFORM THE RAW DATA TO A SAS SYSTEM FILE. ALSO PROVIDED WILL BE A USER'S GUIDE THAT GIVES THE PURPOSE OF THE DATA SET; SAMPLING, DATA COLLECTION, AND INSTRUMENTATION PROCEDURES; AND CONTENTS OF THE DATA SET. FOR A FEW VERY LARGE DATA SETS ALREADY IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN, A HOW TO ACCESS AND USE GUIDE WILL BE PREPARED; THESE DATA SETS WILL FORM THE SECONDARY ARCHIVE. SEARCH AND RETRIEVAL SOFTWARE CAPABLE OF RETRIEVING ACROSS-ARCHIVE INFORMATION AT BOTH THE INDIVIDUAL-VARIABLE AND STUDY LEVELS WILL ACCOMPANY THE ARCHIVES. THE ENTIRE CONTENTS OF THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY ARCHIVES WILL BE ASSEMBLED INTO A SINGLE CD-ROM MICROCOMPUTER PRODUCT. A SET OF SUPPLEMENTARY PRODUCTS WILL ALSO BE DEVELOPED.
