THE PROJECT WILL EXAMINE TECHNIQUES FOR GROWTH OF HIGH PURITY IRON WHISKERS OF VARIOUS MORPHOLOGIES FROM THE VAPOR PHASE. PRECURSOR SPECIES AND DEPOSITION PROCESS PARAMETERS WILL BE SYSTEMATICALLY VARIED. PRODUCT MORPHOLOGICAL, CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS, PARTICULARLY MAGNETIC PROPERTIES, WILL BE DETERMINED FOR CORRELATION WITH DEPOSITION PARAMETERS AND COMPARISON TO COMMERCIAL IRON WHISKERS AND FILAMENTS.
