Research abstract

Rapidly assessing fuel quality represents a significant challenge for the Department of Defense both in the field and in storage/distribution facilities. The ability to monitor fuel quality on site and in real time would offer significant advantages overcurrent laboratory testing methods. It has been demonstrated that vibrational spectroscopy is capable of correlating the chemical information contained within the spectral data to a wide range of fuel properties. As a result, a fuel analyzer based onnear infrared vibrational spectroscopy which is capable of assessing fuel quality based on defined quality parameters will be developed.
