Research abstract

The objective of this project is to develop practical, cryogenic packaging technology for HTS devices that are packaged in rigidly bonded, vertical arrays. The approach is to develop uniform-temperature cooling planes that can be integrated directly with an array of HTS substrates. In Phase I we will demonstrate the feasibility of the integral cooling planes by (1) specifying the thermal and interface requirements for the cooling planes, (2) selecting a cryogenic cooling system that can provide the needed cooling, and (3) demonstrating the fabrication and cryogenic operation of the integral cooling plane using standard microwave substrates for YBCO circuits.
