Research abstract
Ergo-Tech Systems Inc. and Advantage Quality Engineering Inc., propose to fabricate, test, and characterize a high-torque solid state motor during Phase I. Small high torque motors are needed and are of prime interest to the DOD, Space agencies and commercial industry. The few designs that are published in US Patents are plagued by problems derived from the absorption of the small steps by the compliance of the motor structure, by the differences in thermal expansions, or by the inability to hold a step due to the presence of vibrations. This proposed motor design represents a breakthrough in that by selecting a distinctively different approach, it easily circumvents the aforementioned difficulties and can be competitively priced. Either rotary or linear motion can be produced by this motor. Physically, the entire solid state motor system is very small and lightweight. Precise positioning of an object, while under load, is controllable to minuscule units of measure. This generic motor thus demonstrated can then be prototyped during Phase II and III for a strikingly wide variety of dual use applications, such as actuation devices in automotive engines and within automotive interiors, robot components, ducting mechanisms, aircraft flight control components, to fulfill related long overdue reliability and mass reduction requirements. This breakthrough in solid state motors will position it's development team as a leader in this technology, not only in the USA, but in the world. Commercial applications include automotive engines and within automotive interiors, flow control surfaces, children's toys, and in the automation of manufacturing processes. The wide variety of applications in the government sector include: spacecraft positioning mechanisms used with antennas, shutters, and focusing mechanisms, robot components, deployment mechanisms, and aircraft actuation systems.
