Research abstract

This proposal addresses the development of an advanced shaft-mounted starter generator that is integrated with a magnetic bearing system (ISGMB) for gas turbine engines. A novel magnetic structure reduces the number of power amplifiers and eliminates theneed for angular position sensors. The mechanical structure is optimized for high speeds and high temperatures. In Phase II, a prototype will be designed, fabricated, and demonstrated.
