Research abstract

We propose to design and build a tunable, non-contact optical figure-measurement system to measure surface aberrations on a large membrane or segmented mirror. Our approach uses novel electro-optic devices to vary the resolution of the system over four orders of magnitude. Our concept also incorporates algorithms to interface with the mirror-actuator system so that the aberrations in the mirror's surface can be reduced.
