Research abstract
This is a proposal for a new and innovative technology to perform quick, durable, and sustained repair of concrete and pavement structures with far less interference to transportation services and flow of traffic on highways than is possible with current materials, systems, and practices. The functional problem is that National Highwayt System consists of over 600,000 bridge structures and over 160,000 miles of highway, much of which is over 20 years old and requires repair, preservation, rehabilitation, and in some cases restoration. Current technologies and processes for repair of damaged concrete involve extended lane closures and traffic delays, increasing worker safety issues and economic impacts on the general public. Many repair materials currently available require time consuming preparation, placement and curing methods. This project will develop a quick, mobile repair system for concrete and pavement structures that integrates site preparation, material mixing and delivery, and includes all necessary support items to work day or night with all-weather capability. The system is based on a unique cement called Tectonite that has been developed by the proposing team.
