Research abstract

50653-98-I Spectral Sensitization of Nanocrystalline TiO2 by Dye Aggregates--ChemMotif, Inc., 60 Thoreau Street, Suite 211, Concord, MA 01742-2411; (781) 229-8556 Dr. Mark T. Spitler, Principal Investigator Dr. Mark T. Spitler, Business Official DOE Grant No. DE-FG02-98ER82552 Amount: $74,965 Improvements are sought in the efficiency and manufacturability of dye-sensitized solar cells. The dye-sensitized solar cells will be made using aggregated organic dyes with a higher efficiency than present cells employing organometallic sensitizers. In this project, organic dyes will be chelated to titania under conditions where they are known to aggregate. Nanocrystalline solar cells sensitized with such dyes will be optimized. Commercial Applications and Other Benefits as described by the awardee: This technology will be used to make solar cells to provide electrical power for commercial and residential use._
