Research abstract

The Department of the Air Force has embarked on an ambitious initiative to explore rocket cargo transportation capability for Department of Defense logistics mission sets.  Cardinal Engineering recognizes the immense operational benefits and inherent challenges associated with this emerging material deployment option. Transporting cargo into space, however, is only one aspect of delivering goods and materials at tactical timelines to remote global locations. These materials must also be deployed from space, travel through the atmosphere, and be precisely delivered to locations around the globe in support of operating forces. Developing a robust solution specifically tailored to withstand the environmental conditions of each stage of transportation while meeting mission capabilities is a critical technology enabler to this concept of operations. Accordingly, Cardinal Engineering proposes to leverage commercial and military manufacturing capability and internal expertise garnered from prior experience in the trade space to design, build and deliver a design, critical modeling and simulation artifacts, and subscale testing results for a container that will serve as a flexible platform for delivery of critical mission assets via rocket cargo.
