Research abstract

STUDIES AND SURVEYS HAVE CONCLUSIVELY INDICATED THAT WHEN COMPARED TO ANGLOS, HISPANICS IN THE U.S. ARE UNDERREPRESENTED IN HIGH TECHNOLOGY JOBS; HAVE A HIGHER SCHOOL DROPOUT AND UNEMPLOYMENT RATES, AND LOWER ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT. ADDITIONALLY, THEY DO NOT HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORLD OF WORK AND THE MARKET PLACE; OF JOB OPPORTUNITIES; ENTRY LEVEL JOB SKILLS; AND, DO NOT EXHIBIT THE ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIORS THAT DETERMINE SUCCESS IN FINDING AND HOLDING A JOB. TO AGGRAVATE THE SITUATION, THEY DO NOT RECEIVE EFFECTIVE GUIDANCE FROM TEACHERS AND COUNSELORS REGARDING VOCATIONAL OR CAREER INTERESTS AND EXPECTATIONS. THIS PROPOSAL, THEREFORE, IS AN ATTEMPT TO ADDRESS THE ABOVE PROBLEM BY DEVELOPING A BILINGUAL, INDIVIDUAL CAREER ASSESSMENT, JOB SKILLS ANALYSIS, AND JOB PLACEMENT SYSTEM. MAJOR COMPONENTS WILL INCLUDE ESL, GENERAL APTITUDE, WORKSTYLE, AND JOB SKILLS ASSESSMENT. THE SYSTEM WILL REQUIRE CLOSE COOPERATION BETWEEN EDUCATION, INDUSTRY AND BUSINESS. THE SYSTEM COULD BE APPLIED TO INDIVIDUALS IN EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT DEVELOPMENT, INDUSTRY AND BUSINESS.
