Research abstract

Coryphaeus Software proposes to develop an integrated system for rapid production of high-fidelity geospecific synthetic databases. EasyT - CSI's open system COTS terrain modeling tool - will be the cornerstone of the proposed system. We will enhance EasyT interfaces for input of digital terrain elevation data, photo imagery, and 2D/3D feature data. The objective is for utilization of DMA standard data products, as well as interfacing with COTS imaging and GIS tools. Our main research focus will be to combine advanced methods for modeling of high-fidelity photo-mapped terrain databases with methods for automatic extraction and modeling of 2D and 3D feature data (roads, buildings, . . ). Specific research will address mesh simplification, LOD construction, and support for large high-resolution gaming areas. We will enhance EasyT's existing DFAD-based feature modeling functions to work with new products and formats such as TTD, VPF, and ARC/INFO. EasyT supports output in a variety of visual, CGF/ModSAF, constructive simulation, and mission planner formats -- either directly or soon via SEDRIS. The complete system will include three main COTS tools: ODE Socet Set, ARC/INFO, and EasyT. CSI will team with LNK Corporation in Phase I to analyze TEC's system requirements and to design detailed software specifications for the proposed integrated system. In Phase 2, we will develop, demonstrate and deliver the system to TEC. In Phase 3, we will quickly productize the EasyT enhancements developed under this program. The proposed technology will enable Coryphaeus to extend our leadership in current markets, and to provide new real-time solutions for other markets such as imaging and GIS.
