Research abstract
SDL proposes to develop high-power single-longitudinal-mode, single-spatial-mode lasers with a goemetric unstable resonator cavity. The proposed device will combine the demonstrated advantages of broad-area, diverging-beam amplifiers and resonators with spatial-filtering mirrors to yield a high-power, feedback-resistant diode with an arbitrarily configurable output beam. The unstable resonator laser will enable the next generation of high power cw laser oscillators and MOPAS. Unstable resonator diodes can be fabricated in any material system, thereby allowing high power cw sources to be realized from 0.63-2.0 um.
