Research abstract

Triton Systems, Inc., proposes to apply a unique thin proprietary coating on US Navy / Marine Corp. spherical polycarbonate (PC) Aviation Helmet Visors, to obtain new desired anti-reflection (AR) and scratch resistance (SR) properties. Triton Systems has already developed durable AR coatings on PC for aircraft windshields under a program for the Navy NADC, and has developed a durable SR coating for automotive windows under a program for the US DOT. On this proposed Phase I program, Triton Systems will prepare special AR and SR coatings, and will apply them to spherical shaped PC Navy helmet visors used by air crews in environmentally hostile environments. Prototype sample AR-coated visors will be tested for AR, SR, and environmental durability. On a Phase II program, Triton Systems will develop and test cost-effective prototype coated Navy visors, and in a Phase III program, will work with a recognized Navy vendor to introduce cost-effective production aviation helmet visors in a prompt and effective manner.
