Research abstract

"New hypergolic fuels are less toxic and less carcinogenic than currently used hydrazine species. However, their use in monopropellant applications has been hampered by their low reactivity at low temperatures (< ambient). The development and employmentof new catalysts for the low temperature decomposition of these CINCH (competitive impulse noncarcinogenic hypergolic) fuels is the objective of the proposed Phase II and the overall three phase program. The proposed Phase II will optimize preferredcatalysts from Phase I for activity, mechanical strength, and configuration and incorporate these optimal catalysts into thrust devices of preferred configuration. Successful completion of the Phase II will result in the demonstration of catalysts for lowtemperature (<40¿F) decomposition of CINCH fuels in liquid gas generators of interest to AMCOM and to other entities."
