Research abstract

ADVANCED AVIONICS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS SUCH AS ICNIA, INEWS, PAVE PILLAR AND PAVE PACE ARE HEAVILY BASED ON THE CONCEPT OF RESOURCE SHARING KNOWN AS TOTAL-INTEGRATED AVIONICS (TIA). THE SUCCESS OF THESE PROGRAMS IS HIGHLY DEPENDENT ON THE EXTENT TO WHICH TIA CAN BE SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENTED IN ADVANCED MILITARY AIRCRAFT. ALTHOUGH TIA INVOLVES BOTH HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE, SOFTWARE ENGINEERING IS GENERALLY ACCEPTED AS THE KEY TO SUCCESSFUL TIA IMPLEMENTATION. THIS PROJECT WILL EVALUATE COMPUTER-AIDED SOFTWARE ENGINEERING (CASE) TOOLS AGAINST THE SOFTWARE ENGINEERING LIFE CYCLE PROCESS AND TOTALINTEGRATED AVIONICS REQUIREMENTS. THE OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF THIS EFFORT IS TO DEFINE A CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK AND DESIGN FOR AN INTEGRATED SUITE OF CASE TOOLS THAT WILL INCREASE THE COST EFFECTIVENESS OF TIA SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT, MAINTENANCE AND CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT.
