Research abstract

There is a need for COmpai-t, efficient blue lasers to enable expansion of current applications into b^roader markets. For example, the demand for molecular sequencing instruments is expanding from research into clinical applications, but a small, relLable laser source is needed to meet the re- quirements of this new market. Several approaches have been demonstrated by us and others for efficiently generating blue or green light in the laboratory, but the sensitivity of these approaches to variability in the nonlinear material is severe. Deacon Research has developed a proprietary approach to stabilize the material response, making blue generation commercially viable. Our system approach is compatible with a package volume of a few cubic inches, and a 20% net conversion efficiency. In this Phase I program and option, we will establish that the ill effects of the nonlinear optical material variability can be overcome^ and we will show that the performance of the modified material can iDeet the needs of the marketplace.
