Research abstract

Not Available In an effort to reduce the total cost of ownership (including operations and maintenance), while simultaneously increasing performance and reliability, many organizations have implemented condition-based maintenance and monitoring (CBM) systems. The approach described in this proposal will result in a new and efficient means of selecting appropriate CBM technologies and ensuring their effective implementation. The Phase I effort will develop the methodology to assess the effectiveness of candidate CBM technologies against a particular application. It will apply the methodology to assess the effectiveness of candidate CBM technologies against a particular application. It will apply the methodology to several simple test cases to verify the results obtained are commensurate with what would be expected based on standard accepted practices and typical results from reliability centered maintenance (RCM) analyses. The Phase I project also will identify appropriate metrics for each of the critical decision factors. These metrics will be tested for robustness using simulated data. The Phase II effort will develop a software tool to proved for an efficient means to perform and document the initial CBM assessments. It will allow for data transfer from /to existing RCM studies and provide the ability to access data from on-line sources to monitor performance of the chosen CBM technologies against expected results.
