Research abstract

A PROCESS FOR PRODUCING A REAL-TIME CATHODE RAY TUBE (CRT) DISPLAY WITHOUT THE USE OF SPECIAL GLASSES OR DISPLAY CRT ISPROPOSED. THIS SYSTEM WILL INCORPORATE A PROCESS WHICH MAKES INNOVATIVE USE OF ASPECTS OF VISUAL PERCEPTION AND IS IN CURRENT DEVELOPMENT FOR MOTION PICTURES. PHASE I WILL PRODUCE A REAL-TIME DEMONSTRATION OF THE PROCESS ON A COMPUTER-DRIVEN CRT AND MAKE AN OBJECTIVE MEASURE TO SHOW THAT SUBJECTS ARE PERCEIVING SPATIAL INFORMATION. THIS WILLBE DONE WITH A SIMPLE FORCED-CHOICE TEST WHICH WILL BE SUBJECTED TO TRADITIONAL STATISTICAL ANALYSIS. A DEMONSTRATION 16MM MOTION PICTURE TAKEN FROM THE CRT WILL BEPRODUCED. THE PROCESS DOES NOT REQUIRE EXTREMELY FAST COMPUTATION AND CAN ULTIMATELY BE ACHIEVED WITH DEDICATED COMPACT ELECTRONICS. THE LONG TERM GOAL IS TO DEVELOP A 3-DDISPLAY MODULE WHICH CAN BE READILY INCORPORATED INTO VARIOUS SYSTEMS, INCLUDING AIRBORNE AND GROUND-BASED ATC DISPLAY SYSTEMS.
