Research abstract

The objective for development of a modular gas generator Sur face Ship Torpedo Defense (SSTD) launch canister is to provide U.S. and allied surface ships with a low cost, low maintenance, highly reliable system that produces no environmentally hazardous by-products. This system could be readily deployed on surface combatants, amphibious assault craft, or high value supply ships without sizeable complements of gas launch equipment or maintenance crew. Development issues will focus on components, requirements and configuration of the launch canister for SSTD, and the establishment of a plan to test the attributes and functions of the proposed configuration.
