Research abstract
Broadband signal processing is important for interpreting signals received from active sonar transmissions. The traditional approach to processing broadband signals in the sonar literature is to assume a harrowband condition that Justifies the use of narrowband signal processing. RTcently there has been renewed interest in avoiding the narrowband assumption and in actually using techniques that are more, closely matched to the broadband model. Some of this interest has arisen because of the close connection between wavelets and broadband signal. processing. Wepropose to exploit this close connection and to conduct research in three areas of interest in broadband signal processing, namely, deconvolution of broadband signUs, reverberation suppression, and, beamforming. In each of these areas we propose solutions based:upon recent research-in wavelets. we to use our three research projects as a basis for delineating the items needed to form (under Phase-h) an advancedsoftware toolkit for broadband signal processing. This toolkit vill be a commercially viable product that can be used. by other researchers and practitioners to quickly prototype and evaluate algorithms for broadband signal processing. AV
