Research abstract

The DoD has identified a critical need for a compact, non-attributable mesh network radio system capable of supporting Position Location Information (PLI), voice communication, sensor integration, and data transmission, all fully integrated with the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK). The challenge lies in maintaining reliable communication in environments lacking conventional cellular or internet coverage while ensuring a low physical and RF signature to meet Low Probability of Interception/Detection (LPI/LPD) requirements. Additionally, the system must be highly adaptable, allowing for rapid network creation and deployment across diverse and contested operational environments. Key system requirements include self-healing mesh capabilities for network resilience, power modulation to minimize detectability, and network compartmentalization to securely separate communications between Partner Forces and Blue Forces, all while keeping unit costs low to facilitate wide deployment.Somewear Labs proposes a solution that directly addresses these unique and complex requirements. Leveraging its expertise in mesh networking, satellite communication, and secure data transmission, Somewear Labs offers a small, scalable, non-attributable mesh network system with integrated satellite data link capabilities. This system ensures continuous, resilient communication in disconnected, denied, or contested environments where adversaries may seek to monitor or disrupt conventional communications. Somewear's solution seamlessly integrates with ATAK, supporting real-time situational awareness through LPI/LPD communications between partner forces and Blue Forces. The system offers rapid deployment, flexible network creation, self-healing mesh technology, and secure network compartmentalization, enhancing operational effectiveness while minimizing risk. By providing a scalable and cost-effective solution, Somewear Labs is equipped to support the Department of Defense’s growing need for resilient, adaptable communication systems that empower operators to conduct critical missions in the most challenging environments.
