Research abstract
A novel approach is suggested for reducing by three orders of magnitude the acceleration sensitivity of a Stable Master Oscillator (STAMO) for use on-boaxd ship. The proposed technique uses recent improvements in accelerometer technology coupled with a unique combination of previously proposed STAMO compensation schemes. The proposed innovation further makes use of specialized electronics control and compensation circuits used successfully in inertial systems. The defined tasks would include an examination of the operating environments and desired performance of STAMO assemblies in Navy radar and communication system of interest, an evaluation of current STAM0 operating characteristics, the selection of an optimum accelerometericandidate, and the demonstration, via modeling and analysis, that the suggested compensation technique will achieve the required reduction in acceleration sensitivity. Funding of the design option would permit the preliminary definition of a STAMO modification to achieve the predicted performance improvement and the generation of a design demonstration and environmental test plan.
