THIS PROPOSAL IS FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT LEADING TO AN ALL SOLID STATE SHORT-PULSE INFRARED LASER SOURCE OPERATING AT A WAVELENGTH NEAR ONE MICRON. THIS SOURCE WILL EMPLOY LASER DIODE PUMPED SOLID STATE LASER TECHNOLOGY TO PROVIDE FOR A HIGHLY STABLE AND RELIABLE SOURCE FOR SUCH APPLICATIONS AS LASER ALTIMETERS FOR EARTH CLIMATE SENSING FROM SPACE.
