Research abstract

"The effort proposed in this Phase I SBIR focuses on the development of methods (e.g. immersive methods for visualizing fit and accommodation) and design of an advanced user interface to help prospective users of web-accessible anthropometry data bettersee, evaluate, and understand the information presented. The worth of the entire collection of anthropometry data is only as good as the information that can be drawn from the data via the user interface. Therefore, having a user interface that isadaptable to the level and needs of individual users is critical to success in accessing and using the data available. To optimize usefulness, the interface will be designed to be 1) intuitive and easy to use, 2) tunable to the level of expertise of theindividual user, 3) able to operate in a stand-alone or integrated mode, 4) web enabled, 5) compatible with the primary CARD Laboratory Information System interface, and 6) designed so that it can easily evolve to accept new visualization and displaytechniques as they come to market. The user interface will be designed for stand-alone operation and as a plug-and-play portal to the planned Anthropometry Research Information System (ARIS). The design objectives of Phase I will be matched to future CARDLaboratory Information System requirements and seamless integration with that Information System. The planned use of an independent user group to determine user needs will provide a user-oriented
