Research abstract
Investigates improvements to the APS-145 radar currently used on the Navy's E-2C surveillance aircraft. Program evaluates three architectures to select optimum based on performance and anticipated system modification costs. Implementation of one of the architectures (based on Phase I tradeoffs) would enhance system capability to detect low RCS targets in the presence of clutter as well as allow detection of slow moving ground targets. The systems MDV is decreased to a level allowing this improved surveillance capability over -- land, water and littoral areas. This effort performs an analysis of three candidate architectures with on-platform electromagnetic effects considered using GEMACS, applies appropriate ASTP/DPCA algorithms and develops performance predictions using the BRADS tool. Performance tradeoffs are then performed to select the most cost effective architecture for APS-145 improvements.
