Research abstract
A distributed control wireless B-CDMA PCN network using Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) cell based architecture and connected to various backbone networks, such as an ATM/SONET is proposed. The main function of this system is to provide robust wireless multimedia communications capabilities. Additional attributes of this wireless PCN network are: mobility, reconfigurability, ability to work as part of the Global Grid System and capability of being incorporated into the Synthetic Theater of War (STW) mobile Defense Simulation Internet (DSI). Key aspects for this research include security, power conservation techniques, network topology/hierarchy, protocols, voice/data contention, adaptive power control, range extension in varying terrain by data relaying, adaptively modifying network base on dwindling power sources, and interfacing/interoperability/ internetworking with other radios/networks. The design specifications of the PCN network along with its interface to the ATM/SONET will be based on the OSI model. Some system characteristics and strategies in meeting different objectives such as network efficiency with respect to end-to-end delay, probability of cell loss, flexibility and availability among others will be provided.
